Born and raised in Wailuku, Maui, Ms. Chong received her initial ballet training at the Maui Academy of Performing Arts and continued her education and training at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with Alaine Haubert and Sandra Hammond. While pursuing her Master's Degree from New York University, she trained with Kat Wildish, Finis Jhung and Natalya Stavro.
Locally, she performed with the Maui Academy of Performing Arts and Onium Ballet Project. Recently, Ms. Chong conceived and directed Duets, a program of dances from different cultures and disciplines, at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art.
As the Associate Director of Development for the Honolulu Museum of Art, Denise was the staff liaison for the museum's annual black-tie event, Kama'aina Christmas and served on their ARTafterDARK Advisory Board.
Ms. Chong has been teaching ballet at Queen Emma Dance Studio for the past 12 years and has served as the Stage Manager and Assistant to the Choreographer for various Diamond Head Theatre performances including The King and I (2011), Peter Pan (2009), and The Flower Drum Song (2008).
Ms. Chong currently teaches our Ballet Technique I classes.
