Risa Yoshimura was born and raised in Japan. Her specialty is contemporary dance.. 

She began her dance training at the Izumi Kawamura Dance Company at seven years old. There, she studied under the training of Ms. Kawamura, Director of the Tohoku Branch of the Contemporary Dance Association. Ms. Kawamura studied under the guidance of Pina Bausch of Tanztheater in Germany. 

In 2010, Ms. Yoshimura was awarded second place in the Yokohama Competition. In 2012, she received the Dance Plan Award. 

During her training at the Izumi Kawamura Dance Company, Ms. Yoshimura was a teaching assistant and youth choreographer for students. 

In 2013, Ms. Yoshimura studied contemporary dance at the Peridance Center in New York as an invited awardee of the Cultural Agency’s Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists. Ms. Yoshimura moved to Hawaii in 2015 and joined the teaching team at Honolulu Classical Ballet in 2022.
